How to Build a Global Community

I found this awesome sign in Ginger's Cafe located in Springville, Utah. The message is beautiful and highlights so much of what Global Village Gifts stands for: fair trade, global outreach and education, knowing where your food and clothing comes from, staying open to new experiences and cultures. I'm sorry for the terrible photo quality (I took this with my phone). But enjoy!

Barefoot Books

I'd like to introduce one of our partners: Barefoot Books. This award-winning organization was founded by two mothers who dreamed of bringing beautiful, educational and diverse stories to life.

Their Mission Statement:
At Barefoot Books, we celebrate art and story that opens the hearts and minds of children from all walks of life, focusing on themes that encourage independence of spirit, enthusiasm for learning and respect for the world’s diversity. The welfare of our children is dependent on the welfare of the planet, so we source paper from sustainably managed forests and constantly strive to reduce our environmental impact. Playful, beautiful and created to last a lifetime, our products combine the best of the present with the best of the past to educate our children as the caretakers of tomorrow.

This company provides some of the greatest gifts we can offer each other as humans: a broader perspective and a sense of wonder.

The Barefoot Books website provides plenty of opportunities to get involved including art and craft activities, school lessons, a book club, and stay-at-home jobs as ambassadors. Check it out here.

Gallery Walk

Global Village Gifts is a frequent participant of the 2nd Friday Gallery Walk of downtown Logan. This past friday we featured Carie Toone, the owner of and designer for Elegant Expressions. Check out these gorgeous, handmade artisan jewelry at her Etsy site. I briefly spoke with the lovely Carie while perusing the galleries. When asked about her process she reported an intuitive approach to gleaning images and feelings from life to use as a base for each design.
The 2nd Friday Gallery Walk is a great way to support local shops, artists and makers of all varieties. The next date of this event is June 13th. Don't miss it!

A Fair Trade Coffee Addiction

We sell a fantastic variety of products both edible and otherwise. One product we don't sell, however, is coffee. The reason for this is found in our neighbor, Caffe Ibis. This wonderful shop offers some of the greatest coffee possibly ever (in my somewhat biased caffeine-addicted opinion.) Ibis goes beyond taste, though, by selling many fair trade certified roasts. Buying food products from fair trade shops like Caffe Ibis goes a long way in supporting fair wages, safe working conditions and more. Many farmers depend on the base price enforced by fair trade to stay in business and support their families. Click here to access a great article on fair trade coffee.  It explains "why drinking fair trade coffee is a simple act that makes a big difference".

Address for Caffe Ibis:
52 Federal Ave, Logan, UT 84321

Address for Global Village Gifts:

69 E 100 N in Logan, UT 84321

As you can see, our stores live just a short walk apart. Grab a drink (I recommend an iced americano -mmm-) and then check out our shop! :)
